Former Cents goalie heading to Dallas

Former North Bay Centennials and Ottawa Senators goalie Alex Auld was traded to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 6th round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Former North Bay Centennials and Ottawa Senators goalie Alex Auld was traded to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 6th round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

“Alex is a proven NHL veteran with a track record of success in this league,” said Stars General Manager Nieuwendyk in a team press release.

“He has size and ability, and we expect him to be an excellent goaltender for us.”

The Stars were looking to find a backup for starter Marty Turco after they lost out on the Jonas Gustavsson sweepstakes to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Auld was rumoured to be on the trading block recently after the Senators acquired Pascal Leclaire from the Columbus Blue Jackets in March.

Leclaire is expected to be Ottawa's starter this season, backed up by Brian Elliott.

The 28-year-old Thunder Bay product appeared in 43 games with Ottawa during the 2008-09 season, posting a 16-18-1 record with a .911 save percentage, a 2.48 goals-against-average and one shutout.

The 6-4, 223-pound netminder has played in 183 career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. He has a 74-75-25 career mark, with six shutouts, a .905 save percentage and a 2.76 goals-against-average. Auld appeared in four Stanley Cup Playoff games with Vancouver in 2003 and 2004.
