POWASSAN, ON. - The ice plant is fired up at the Powassan Sportsplex and exciting hockey is around the corner.

The Dragons coaching staff and management are hard at work scouting talent for the Powassan Dragons and finalizing plans for the upcoming season and most notably the home opener September 11th at 8:00 p.m. against the Minden River Kings at the sportsplex and the first road trip across the border to Ville Marie, Quebec to do battle with the Voyageurs. This will be the begining of the Dragons 44 regular season games for the 2009-2010 season.

The dragons are excited to conduct their main camp August 24th to Aug. 28 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. nightly at the Sportsplex. Dragons officials say the camp should feature some of the top players from the area and import players from Europe and the U.S. looking to play in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League.

Dragons manager Denis Champagne is enthusiastic about this upcoming season and thinks that Powassan will make a impact in the league from the drop of the puck opening night.

"We have recruited and made some trades in the off season to acquire some veteran players who have played in the GMHL or other junior leagues to guarantee leadership on and off the ice to start the season," said Champagne.

"The players will be ready to play opening night and hopefully we will rival any team in our league with fan support and energize the sportsplex with great hockey and great fans. Their is nothing like a full house of hockey fans energizing their home team and cheering them to victory! I have seen it first hand when a community has embraced their GMHL TEAM and the team has embraced the community it sure makes for a interesting winter and it becomes the envy of other players, coaches and communities."

early bird pricing on season tickets are still in effect to guarantee maximum attendance and to allow everyone the time to purchase and take advantage of the pricing for every Powassan Dragons home game.
