Couch still with the Trappers

John Couch, sitting between G.M. Randy Edmonds and assistant coach Jamie Young, during a press conference about the Peewee Trappers last summer, says he is still with the Peewee Trappers.

North Bay and District Peewee AAA coach John Couch wanted to clear the air about his future with the new AAA club.

In an earlier story, BayToday.ca reported that the organization is seeking a new coaching staff. However, Couch wants to make it clear that he isn't leaving the team which is preparing for Northern Ontario championships.

"Myself and the coaching staff are focused on our season still, with the NOHAs still in our grasp," the energetic coach said in an email to BayToday.ca.

"With regard to our intentions for next season, we have expressed interest in following the AAA Trapper team on into next season, and developing this Pee Wee team at the Minor Bantam AAA level. But before we can do that we need to hear if there will be a league one way or another.

"At this point we (coaching staff) are still waiting for the ‘final’ decision, from all who have applied to form the Minor Bantam AAA team, and the status on a league is still unknown.

"Bottom line is we are still working hard with this fine group of boys. With regard to the Pee Wee experience so far, the support from the parents, and boys we have gotten is fantastic, this season ranks up there with the best," he added.

"As for next season we have not been approached to discuss the Pee Wee's or bantams officially, but we certainly have thrown our hats into the mix for consideration.

"I would rather have this discussion after our team has completed our run for the top spot in Ontario, and that starts next weekend Thursday, March 12th in Sudbury.
Hopefully by then, the league will be figured out, but for now I am only interested in coaching the mighty Pee Wee Trapper AAA team!"
