The ProSharp Bantam AA Trappers were put through an early morning Coach4Food practice by Tom Hedican and in turn helped push the fundraiser over the 13-ton mark.

The Trappers, sponsored by Onelife Wealth Management (North Bay) Inc, piled 1,310 pounds onto the total for the North Bay Food Bank.

Residents of 149 Lindsay Condominium Corporation then added 440 pounds with a food drive within their building.

RBC Royal Bank also contributed 1,000 pounds from its fundraiser earlier this year, whereby hockey fans were asked to bring non perishable food items to the Capitol Centre to watch the men's Olympic gold hockey game. Included in the total was a cash donation from RBC.

Those donations pushed Hedican's fundraiser to 27,227 pounds with 10 days remaining in the fundraiser.

Coach4Food, whereby Hedican puts local hockey and ringette teams through a series of European professional and NHL skill drills, was inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's work with food banks in Canada and the United States. The practices will continue until Dec. 23 when the grand total will be announced. Last year was a record year for Hedican's fundraiser, bringing in 76,319 pounds of food and monetary donations.
