Like a fine wine, it seems like the Coach4Food campaign just keeps getting better and better.

European hockey coach and North Bay resident Tom Hedican dropped the puck for the start of the third year of the Coach4Food campaign and on Sunday he ran a practice at Pete Palangio arena for the North Bay North Stars; a group of 21 players with developmental difficulties.

Hedican says the North Stars practice was one of the best Coach4Food practices ever.

“The kids were awesome,” said Hedican who was joined on the ice by North Bay Police Chief Paul Cook, his wife Karen Cook and Tom’s wife Nancy Ann.

“I was amazed at the drills they conquered and their attitudes were unreal; upbeat, happy and ready for anything. We worked on quick feet drills, one-touch passing and pivoting and played a couple of games.”

With help from their practice sponsor “Account on Fullerton” the team brought in 450 pounds to start the amazing fundraiser for the North Bay Food Bank which became a key part of North Bay’s winning 2007 Hockeyville submission.

The Coach4Food campaign wraps up just before Christmas and its expected to be another record breaking initiative.
