Members of the North Bay Nordic Junior Race Team participated in 3 days of racing in Duntroon, Ontario. The 12 member team dealt with extreme weather along with the rest of the province.

Senior members of the team Jacob Porter and Greg Kilroy put in solid performances in their first year as junior men competing against some of the country’s top skiers. Ava Rudachyk competed against senior women while new member 16 year old Nadine Perron raced in her first Ontario Cup/Haywood Noram race as a junior woman alongside teammate Nel Vandermeer. Nel’s sister Molly Vandermeer enjoyed her first races with the North Bay team.
While Courtney Hill qualified for the sprint B finals in her first ski races, her brother Scott was sidelined by injury after a solid showing in his sprints.

Adam Birosh brought home a gold medal for his classic sprint race. In the distance skate race a competitor stepped on his pole pulling it off his wrist in the final 125 meters of the race. Adam lost his lead but managed to hang on to a silver medal finish. Adam’s younger brother, new team member and first year midget Aaron won two bronze medals in his two races while Liam Patterson won a decisive gold medal in his midget sprint race and pulled off a solid sixth place finish racing as a juvenile in a field of over 40 racers.

Midget racer and new team member Madison Fraser narrowly missed the podium in the distance skate race with a strong fourth place finish as a first year midget. Madison qualified for her sprint classic race in second place. A fall in the semi finals left her out of the A finals.
