Nipissing Lady Lakers Leesa Church has been named a 1st team All Star as the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced its 2010 All-Stars and major award winners for the women’s soccer East Division.

The North Bay native collected nine goals on the season which placed her in a tie for third in OUA scoring. Church led her team to (5-7-4) regular season regular and an upset win over Toronto in the first round of the playoffs. The Lady Lakers magical run would end at the hands of the top ranked team in Canada (Queen’s) with a narrow 2-1 OT loss in the quarter-finals.

Church became Nipissing’s top scorer in the history books as she found the back of the net 31 times in her three year career at Nipissing.

“It is great to see Leesa receive this type of recognition from the coaches in the OUA. She had a great season and is well deserving of this award,” said head coach Vito Castiglione.

Church is currently enrolled in the Schulich School of Education and plans on pursuing a career in teaching upon graduation in April.

This is the third All-Star award for Church.
