MISSISSAUGA - Stephanie Carr from North Bay Gymtrix qualified this past weekend for the Gymnastics Ontario Level 7 Team travelling to compete in at the Magic Classic in Orlando Florida next February. Carr, competing in her first competition of the year, put it all together and finished 6th in a tough field of 50 athletes to secure a spot on the Ontario Level 7 Team.

The Tour Selection competition was held in Mississauga at the beautiful Gymnastics Mississauga facility.

Gymtrix coach Bill Rhoads said this was a great accomplishment for the 16-year-old gymnast.

"Stephanie competed against a very strong field," said Gymtrix coach Bill Rhoads.

Carr placed first in the Vault, 5th on the Floor and 7th on the Bars.

Carr said she knew she could do well if the hit her routines.

"My coaches and I decided not to worry about scores but to just concentrate on doing my best on each event and to see what happened," she said.

"This worked out well as I was not too nervous and ended up doing a good routines on each event. After learning that I had qualified for the team I was excited and a little overwhelmed with everything that had to be done immediately after the results were announced but the best thing is knowing that although I did well I know I can do even better so I look forward to getting back to the gym and training harder."

Stephanie competes next with her teammates at the first Ontario Championships qualifier held in Oakville the first weekend in December.
