The North Bay Bantam 'AAA' Hilltop Variety Blades won all three games of a series against the Timmins Eagles in North Bay on the weekend.

On Saturday afternoon the Blades defeated the Eagles 5-2 in a rare contest at Memorial Gardens.

Dustin Hummel had a strong game in goal stopping a 2nd period penalty shot and a pair of breakaways in the middle frame.

Martin Strasbourg, Tait Seguin, Kyle Baril, Brodie Whitehead and Zach Deshense did the scoring for the victorious Blades.

In their 2nd game on Saturday night at West Ferris arena, the Blades battled back from a 3-2 deficit after 2 periods to win 5-3.

Mike Mason had 2 goals in the win while Brodie Whitehead, Kieran Peltier and Kyle Baril added singles.

In the final game the Blades let the Eagles jump out to a 1-0 lead but then scored 4 unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 win and a weekend sweep.

Kyle Baril scored twice while Mike Mason and Martin Strasbourg rounded out the scoring for the Blades.

The 3 wins improve the Blades record to 14-18-3 as they still sit in 4th spot in the five-team league.

Blades head coach Rob Ladouceur was pleased with the effort on the weekend as his club needed the 6 points to gain some ground on the third place Sudbury Wolves.

"We got strong goaltending all weekend which we will need heading into the playoffs," said Ladouceur.

"The play of guys like Storie and Baril really showed up as they did a great job going head to head with their top line."

Next weekend the Blades travel to a tournament in Lindsay.
