Bret Foisy had a memorable Canada Day 150 for sure.

The former North Bay native was part of a "Cinderella" victory for Team Canada in the Border Battle international softball event in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

In that game, Team Canada knocked off the favoured Americans 31-28 for the Maple Leaf’s first Border Battle title since 2010.

The St. Joseph-Scollard Hall alum got the Team Canada invite thanks to an impressive showing at the nationals last year in the Yukon when he led the tournament with 12 home runs, 38 RBI’s and a .730 batting average.

Foisy, who hit clean-up for Canada contributed with a three-run home run in the victory which is only the second for Canada in the nine-year history of the Canada-USA event.

“It was a huge team win with everybody contributing and supporting each other to get the job done,” said Foisy, who now resides in Bond Head, Ontario.

“This is such a big win for Softball Canada's National Team programs. We're now number 1 in the World, having just won on softball's biggest stage."

Foisy, who admitted before the event that this may be his last international competition, wanted to send out thanks to his many supporters in Ontario.

“A huge thank you to all who were following back home in North Bay and around Canada, watching the live stream and sending their love and support,” said Foisy.

“Your voices were heard and your support felt by all of us. We're a very proud group today,” he said after Saturday’s win.
