Another season is officially underway and I, along with a newly assembled Trapper team cannot wait for the journey ahead. It’s a time for not only the players to be excited, but the fans as well. We are bringing a faster and harder working team to Memorial Gardens this season and will be doing our absolute best to deliver.

Like the beginning of any season, on any team, you must undergo the dreaded tryouts! This year was no different and the players had a killer first day. From your standard push-ups and sit-ups over to bench-press and beep test, the coaching staff this year packed a tough workout in a short amount of time. To tell you the truth I think I am still kind of sore… The nice thing about tryouts is that you can prepare for them really well throughout the summer.

My summer was especially busy; aside from the constant working out and trying to find some ice, I also spent time visiting with my friends and family in Calgary (who I hadn’t seen for quite some time due to hockey). I went camping on multiple occasions, and ventured to the Calgary Stampede (“Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”). Other than that it was sports like Baseball, street hockey, volleyball, tennis and golf. You name it, I probably played it this summer. I also worked hard this summer at a golf course. Working at a golf course was a bitter sweet experience for me this summer, well more sweet then bitter. I loved the work, enjoyed my coworkers company and it paid well, but the hours were exhausting. All the same, I had fun working there and would do it all again in a heartbeat.

Being back in North Bay has been great so far, I can only hope that I have just as much fun as last year if not more. I know I can count on all my readers to be at the next home game (Friday, Sept. 17th) cheering us Trappers to victory.

Check you all out at the home opener this Friday when we take on our over the border rivals, the Temiscaming Royals.

GO! Trappers! GO!
