Barons win Timmins tourney

TIMMINS, ON. - The ESC Algonquin Barons Senior Girls Basketball captured the 20th Annual Sister Fay Tournament of Excellence here on Saturday night when they downed Le Carrefour from Val d'Or in the finals 48-43 on Saturday night.
TIMMINS, ON. - The ESC Algonquin Barons Senior Girls Basketball captured the 20th Annual Sister Fay Tournament of Excellence here on Saturday night when they downed Le Carrefour from Val d'Or in the finals 48-43 on Saturday night.

Camille Courville led the way with 14 points in the final, while Amanda Edmunds, Chelsey Tremblay and Emilie Goulet each added 7 points. Nadine Perron was her usual dominant self on the defensive and offensive boards, pulling down 18 rebounds in the finals.

In the semi-finals, the Barons downed the Widdifield Wildcats 38-31, with Goulet leading the way offensively with 9 points, while Edmunds chipped in with 6, while Shannon Jerome and Gabrielle Lefebvre had 5 and 4 points respectively.

In preliminary play, the Senior Barons downed the St-Charles Cardinals from Sudbury 43-14 (Edmunds 10 points, Courville 9 points) and Michipicoten H.S. from Wawa 49-10 (Edmunds 12 points, Morgan Wardell 10 points).

Perron was selected as tournament MVP, while Edmunds was a 1st team All-Star.

Next up for the Barons are the SJSH Bears on Tuesday night at the Algonquin Gym.
