MISSISSAUGA, ON. - The Stingers competed in the Provincials this past weekend in Mississauga. This team made up of mainly first year players, were put together only three weeks prior to the tournament. While they showed a lot of heart they were unable to match the experience of the mainly second year players that had played together all year.

They got off to a rocky start, as the nerves were evident in a loss to Erindale who would make it all the way to the semifinals. Yoan Grenier had a double and scored the lone run in the loss.

The players did not want to go out in two straight games and after some team bonding were much more relaxed defeating Georgetown 8 –1. Nick Scott was the winning pitcher striking out 6 batters in 4 innings. Cole Filiatrault came on in relief for the final 2 innings. Curtis Lacelle got things started in the 2nd inning with a base hit and scored on a Matt Salter groundout. Ryan Wilkinson got the big hit in the inning with a bases loaded triple and Filiatrault added a 2 run double. Greg Gravelle added 3 hits, while Scott and Lacelle had 2 each.

In their final game the Stingers faced a must win game against Cambridge. The teams traded the lead 4 times and unfortunately Cambridge scored 2 runs in the last inning to take the game 7-6. Scott and Wilkinson shared the pitching duties while Wayde Van Mierlo led the way offensively with 2 hits and 3 rbis. Other members of the team were Jeremy Clouatre and Jake Staples who contributed a couple of highlight reel defensive plays. Coaches Mike Salter, Derek Wilkinson and Chad Lacelle look forward to the team playing together for a full season next year and competing for a Provincial title.
