St. Catharines, ON - Josh Schram scored a power play goal midway through the 3rd period to break a 1-1 tie as the Brock Badgers edged the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 in OUA hockey action Friday night.

Matt Lahey made his return from injury and scored the opening goal for the 6-4-1 Lakers who have now lost 3 straight after an impressive 6-game winning streak.

The Lakers had a couple opportunities to tie it up with a pair of late power plays but Badgers goaltender Mark Yetman made a pair of game saving stops with the Lakers on a 6 on 4 advantage.

"We played harder and competed better than we did last weekend," said head coach Mike McParland about his club Friday night.

"I thought we played better overall the 3 periods but we didn’t have one dominating period; we were even opponent for all three periods."

Kyle Cantlon made 30 saves in the loss.

McParland admitted the Lakers need to find scoring from outside their top line if they want to get back on another winning streak.

"We didn’t have the secondary scoring and that was the difference, when we go back to the U of T game when we won and the top line didn’t score a goal."

The Lakers are back on the road tomorrow as the take on the Guelph Gryphons for a 3:00 p.m. start. The game will be a homecoming of sorts for defenceman John Quarrie, Andrew Marcoux, and Matt Hache who all grew up in the Guelph area and will likely have lots of family in attendance.

That game can be heard on AM 600 CKAT tomorrow afternoon.
