The ACT/UCT Blades Atom A hockey team, with financial sponsorship of $1,000. from former North Bayite Karen Holmes, Realtor VHM-Remax in Oakville, have Tom Hedican's Coach4Food drive moving past the 7 ton mark. The Blades, in their early morning practice, piled another 2,200 pounds onto the total for the North Bay Food Bank.

Added to that, a collection by the Moose FM and Cubeit Portable Storage at a recent Nipissing Lakers game, also added 650 pounds to push the 2009 drive to 14,428 pounds.

Coach4Food, inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's work with food banks in Canada and the U.S, has less than two weeks to make up more than 46,000 pounds to reach last year's record of 60,482 pounds. Cash donations to boost the campaign can be made at the TD Bank on Cassell's street.
