Another big financial donation to Coach4Food

Former teammate and Scollard Hall Bear Ed Kilroy has given Tom Hedican's Coach4Food Program a shot in the arm with a $3,000 donation from Symcor Inc.

Former teammate and Scollard Hall Bear Ed Kilroy has given Tom Hedican's Coach4Food Program a shot in the arm with a $3,000 donation from Symcor Inc. That puts the 2010 fundraiser for the North Bay Food Bank over the 25 ton mark, at 51,406 pounds and counting.

"Ed is a North Bay native and obviously cares about his community," said Hedican. "This is the third consecutive year he and Symcor have contributed to Coach4Food and helped our food bank."

This year's fundraiser has one week remaining and needs nearly 25,000 pounds to break last year's mark.

Coach4Food, whereby Hedican puts local hockey and ringette teams through a series of European professional and NHL skill drills, was inspired by rock star Bruce Springsteen's work with food banks in Canada and the United States. The practices will continue until Dec. 23 when the grand total will be announced. Last year was a record year for Hedican's fundraiser, bringing in 76,319 pounds of food and monetary donations.
