The Nipissing Alouettes got off to a flying start and scored two goals on a 5-minute second period power play to dump the Oro-Medonte 77’s 6-2 on Friday night in penalty-filled game 1 of the North division quarterfinal. Robin Mendelsohn led the way scoring three goals while Dan Madigan, Arthur Ketchedjian and Greg Hyde scored singles. André Leclair added four assists while Madigan and Mendelsohn added two. Mike Wilkinson and Josh Chapais scored the 77’s goals.

Pat Beaudry was solid in goal stopping 30 shots on the night to pick up the win. Tyler Last took the loss surrendering 5 goals before being relieved by Josh Sinotte.

“That 5 minute power play in the second period really gave us wings, we scored twice and put it out of reach,” said coach Lui Ricci after the game.

“We’re a puck possession team, if we get our opportunities, we’ll make the other team pay."

Neither team gets much time to rest as they meet again tomorrow night at the Sturgeon Falls Arena for game 2. Puck drop is set for 8:00 p.m.
