Nick Dvorak scored the only goal out of 16 shootout shots to lead the Manitoulin Islanders to a 5-4 victory over the North Bay Skyhawks in Little Current on Friday night.

The win is only the 4th in 40 games for the Manitoulin Islanders – that’s 2 games short of the amount of losses the Skyhawks have this entire season.

“We played uninspired hockey and they played like they wanted it,” said the disappointed Skyhawks head coach.

“This would have to be one of the low points in the season but it could be just what the doctor ordered before the playoffs. The boys better wear this one and feel it because they deserved to lose.”

Will Laporte, Tyler Hummel, Dustin Fummerton and Justin Villeneuve scored the goals in regulation for the first place Skyhawks.

Brandon Ominika scored twice for Manitoulin. Jake Trudeau and Tyler Ryan had the other goals for the Islanders.

The North Bay club is back in action on Sunday night as they host the Abitibi Eskimos.
