We need Elmer the Safety Elephant back visiting all grades of schools to educate the students and for them to take the message home. Look all ways and wear bright colours at night!
I’ve watched the majority of pedestrians walking along and step off the sidewalk without ever glancing sideways to traffic. Look, people!
Additionally , the new, very bright headlights of today also obscure an oncoming driver’s vision.

I agree with Ja Al comments. Our bike lanes are disjointed and not safe. Look to Europe or China for real bike lanes.
“ There are a lot more people riding their bicycles for transportation in Newmarket than there were even two years ago…”, how do you know? Traffic/bike counters? Visual count? I certainly don’t see it.

Just last week, regarding parking demands for downtown and the future demands of the Postmark Hotel, Counsellor Kwapis said “we are not going to make decisions on 'what if this is going to happen.' We are going to make decisions that, yes, there is a need or no, there is no need”.
Yet, in this article, Mayor Taylor says “ even though many people will say, fair enough, the majority of people don’t use transit. Well, that number will grow. Urbanization, affordability, congestion will grow transit.” Seems he is making decisions on “what if” situations.
Isn’t this rather contradictory reasoning by the same council members? I guess it all depends on who wants what done. Hmmm…

So are the streets connecting to Queen St. I pointed out a “no heavy trucks” sign on our street to a former councillor was told they are only deterrents. Enforcement? Not likely until something serious happens.

Recently, a company working on behalf of the town removed the water covers on our street to do some work, and on two separate occasions, I replaced them after they drove away and left them sitting open for the day. The covers were to the side and the holes were left open. My concern was someone could break an ankle in the open hole because of their placement. Very poor quality assurance on the part of the company doing the work.

Best of luck to them! My concern for them is safety. Personally, I’d like to see it remain at the LCBO.

Newmarket is closed minded about managing traffic and poor driving habits. They absolutely refuse to consider speed bumps/humps when the rest of world relies on them. Visit Bradford to see their traffic management, awesome! Automated crosswalks, speed humps, etc. Let’s not let them ignore the issue of speeding and poor driving habits,

What? “Urban shoulders also assist with slowing down traffic as a calming measure by making the road seem narrower.” We had them and were told by the town it only made a point 5 (.5) % difference. Why waste time/money on these? Many people think they are bike lanes.

Looks like a motorbike to me. Think of children playing on sidewalks, elderly, etc.
It’s one thing to have a motorized wheelchair but when it gets to the size of a bike or mini car, it belongs on the road with proper licensing, lights, registration, etc.
