POT SMOKING AND DRIVING

Recently, the North Bay OPP and the North East Region Traffic and Marine units have encountered some motorists using cannabis products while driving.

Expedient action has been taken and charges have been laid, as it is against the law to be in possession of marihuana. But, did you know that Under the Criminal Code of Canada, drivers can be charged if impaired by alcohol or drugs. The key word is ‘Drugs’.

If an officer finds you driving and impaired by drugs, you will be charged as an impaired driver and will face the same consequences as if you were under the influence of alcohol. The effects of marihuana are similar to the effects of alcohol and can impair your judgment behind the wheel.

Think again before you ‘Spark one up’.
