VALUABLE ‘INUIT’ CARVING STOLEN FROM ONE OF TWO BREAK-INS INVESTIGATED IN THE CLUSTER

(Powassan , Ontario) Powassan OPP were dispatched to a cottage break-in, over the winter at 647 Commanda Lake Road, Pringle Township Restoule, Ontario.

Sometime between mid October 2003 and Thursday April 1st, 2004, culprits broke into this seasonal residence. A valuable Inuit soapstone carving displayed as an “Eskimo with a Spear” worth $7,500.00 was stolen along with various smaller Inuit soapstone carvings. Police are estimating the total value of the carvings stolen to be approximately $10,000.00. Police are continuing their investigation.

(Mattawa, Ontario) Mattawa OPP is investigating a break and enter that occurred in the last four (4) weeks at 307 Moosehead Road, Mattawan Township.

Police were contacted and responded to the Mattawan Township address on Thursday April 1st, 2004. It would appear that someone attended the property by snowmachine and entered the seasonal residence. Potential thieves ransacked the cottage and it appears nothing was stolen at this time. Police are still investigating the matter.
