Young Entrepreneurs Learn about Business during Youth and Teen Enterprise Camp at the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa July 27-31, 2015

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

An exciting business experience awaits youth between the ages of 9 and 13.  They will participate in a 5-day summer camp unlike any other in our region from July 27th to July 31st, 2015. Youth Enterprise Camp brought to you by Head Start in Business and sponsored by Regional CFDCs, FedNor, Ontario Trillium Foundation and other corporate sponsors is a one-of-a-kind business camp, where all participants will embark on a journey into the world of enterprise. The camp also includes great summer activities including swimming, exciting outings, recreational games, campfires and much more.

Young Entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to meet new friends, create their own business and may even make a profit that is theirs to keep.  Camp participants will be under the supervision of North East CFDCs and Canadian Ecology Centre staff.

By the end of the week, campers will recognize various qualities, characteristics and attitudes within themselves that can be related to entrepreneurship. Campers will also learn how to be a team player, a creative thinker, better their organizational skills and goal setting skills all aimed at self-discovery. Campers will run their own “Business for a Day” on Friday, July 31st, 2015.

This camp will host participants from Cobalt, Haileybury, New Liskeard, Kerns, Temagami, Sturgeon Falls, North Bay, Parry Sound and Muskoka/Huntsville area.  There are a limited number of spaces available per community so entrepreneurs should register early. More information will be delivered to the local schools.

During the same week, there is a Teen Social Enterprise Camp for youth ages 13-17 in collaboration with Social Entrepreneurship Evolution. This specially designed camp will provide youth with the opportunity for self-reflection and the development of leadership skills. Youth will gain entrepreneurial knowledge and valuable business skills while thinking of ways in which they can benefit their communities and society at large.

Hands-on learning opportunities will allow participants to explore entrepreneurship models that focus on addressing social, environmental and economic issues and develop their entrepreneurial mindset while engaging in group projects that creatively address a community issue. Participants will take an idea and turn it into a business plan. For the rest of the week they will learn how to put their business plan into action by making their product and selling it, for a profit and an impact, in an actual marketplace!
