On June 10, 2015 at 11:50 am Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a driving complaint on highway 17 north near Whispering Pines Road.

A pick-up truck travelling southbound failed to stop for a flag person at a construction zone on highway 17 and ran over equipment located within the construction zone.

The vehicle was stopped by OPP and as a result of police investigation the driver was charged with Failing to Stop for a Stop sign contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

OPP advise motorists that there will be an ongoing traffic slow down throughout the summer months on Highway 17 north between the Goulais River Bridge to the Batchewana River Bridge.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times due to construction.

Be extra careful when driving through construction zones and areas where people are working on or near the road.  Make safety for everyone a priority.
