UPDATED. School closed by bomb threat in Elliot Lake

UPDATE:

On February 27, 2017, shortly before 8:00 a.m. members of the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a threatening phone call complaint at the Elliot Lake Secondary School (ELSS) located at 303 Mississauga Avenue. The caller indicated that there was an explosive device in the school. 

The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU), the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), the Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the OPP Canine Unit - Explosive Detecting Dog and East Algoma Crime Unit were called in to assist with the investigation and search of the school.  Officers did not locate any explosive device at ELSS. 

Shortly after 8:00 p.m., the members of the Elliot Lake OPP received another threat of an explosive device at ELSS. The East Algoma Crime Unit is continuing their investigation into both of these threats.  

Elliot Lake Secondary School resumed its regular classes this morning.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for these threats should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.

OPP are currently responding to a threatening phone call complaint that was received at around 7:45 a.m. at the Elliot Lake Secondary School.

The OPP Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) and the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) have been called in to assist. The East Algoma OPP is working closely with school officials to bring this event to a safe conclusion.

The school is currently closed and all occupants have been evacuated. Buses have been cancelled.

The OPP is asking residents to please stay away from the area.
