Locked out workers give blood

Donations of blood often fall in winter because holidays and bad weather discourage people from giving blood.

This week workers locked out of their jobs by Nipissing and Parry Sound Children’s Aid Society will continue to show their thanks and dedication to the community that is supporting them so generously during the ongoing labour dispute.

On Tuesday, members of Local 2049 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees are holding a blood drive for the donor clinic at the Best Western hotel in North Bay.

Donations of blood often fall in winter because holidays and bad weather discourage people from giving blood.

“One of the reasons we’re donating blood on Tuesday is to send the message that, locked out or not, we are here for our community, and we will always be here for the people we serve,” said Elizabeth Holmes, vice-president of CUPE 2049. “Giving blood is one of the best ways that you can demonstrate that.”
