QUEEN’S PARK – Today, Vic Fedeli, PC Finance Critic, challenged the Liberal government over this year’s budget, which digs even deeper into the pockets of Ontario’s families and businesses.

Despite warnings from “rating agencies, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, and especially the Auditor General,” Fedeli stated that this budget is, “More of the same. More spending. More debt.”

The latest responses to the budget from these same agencies were just as expected. Moody’s said that this budget still held “…considerable risk”. Others are claiming Ontario is in a “deteriorating fiscal position” and that the document was “lacking in detail.”

Despite the disappointing budget the Liberals introduced, the Premier had the audacity to say, “We don't believe right now that taking more money out of people's pockets would be responsible." MPP Fedeli, who spent seven hours pouring over the budget in Thursday’s lockup, responded, “I don’t know if the Premier read her own budget, if she thinks it isn’t filled with schemes to take money out of our pockets.”

The Liberal budget, which includes a payroll tax, a cap-and-trade tax on everything, a beer tax, another instalment of the aviation fuel tax, increased user fees, and increased hydro rates, will make the cost of living in Ontario even higher and send more jobs elsewhere.

Fedeli said, the Premier “continues to use the Province’s credit card, instead of a debit card.” This Liberal budget will “make it harder for Ontarians to pay their bills.”
