Forest Fire threat minimal

As of July 4, there are currently eight active forest fires in the region. All active forest fires are currently being observed in the far north, with the exception of Cochrane 12, which is currently being held at 176 hectares.

The region is experiencing a low to high hazard, with Manitoulin Island and Sault Ste. Marie experiencing the greatest hazard.

Out of Province

Ontario continues to aid other provinces and territories in firefighting efforts, and has deployed personnel and resources to Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan, the Yukon, as well as in support of Parks Canada. Currently there are 80 personnel in Alberta along with aircraft, pumps and hose equipment, 85 personnel in the Northwest Territories, 43 personnel in Saskatchewan along with pumps and hose equipment, 2 personnel in the Yukon, and 8 personnel assisting Parks Canada along with pump equipment.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
