Two Englehart anglers have been fined a total of $1,250 for fishing offences.

Eric Watson pleaded guilty and was fined $1,000 for catching and keeping walleye during the closed season. He was put on probation for two years and is banned from fishing on the Blanche River between its mouth and Englehart.

Lorri Watson pleaded guilty and was fined $250 for catching and keeping walleye during the closed season.

Court heard that on May 13, 2017, conservation officers conducted surveillance to address complaints of closed-season angling on the Blanche River, which is a major migration and spawning area for walleye from Lake Temiskaming.

Eric and Lorri Watson were seen catching, keeping, and hiding two walleye in a cooler at a nearby camp. The open season for walleye did not start until May 20, 2017.

Justice of the Peace Clayton McKechnie heard the cases in the Ontario Court of Justice, Haileybury, on May 25.
