On April 16 at 2:55 p.m. members of the Sudbury OPP responded to a report of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) falling through the ice on Lake Agnew in Nairn-Hyman Township.

The male rider was in the water and unable to get out onto the ice. The cottagers on the lake and the local Nairn-Hyman Fire Department used ropes and canoes to successfully rescue the male. EMS transported the male to the hospital where he was treated for exposure.

Proper use of safety equipment can reduce the risks of travelling over ice covered bodies of water. Some of these include the wearing of survival suits, carrying picks (used to grip ice to pull yourself out of the water), and carrying a rescue rope.
