The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced a FedNor investment of $82,500 in support of three youth initiatives in North Bay.

“The Government of Canada is committed to investing in initiatives that strengthen the regional economy and help create opportunities for growth,” said Minister Clement. “This investment will promote entrepreneurship, support tourism efforts and foster community economic development, while also providing three local youth with valuable job experiences in the region.”

The City of North Bay, the North Bay Theatre and Arts Community Centre, and the North Bay Area Museum Society have each received $27,500 in FedNor funding to hire a Youth Intern. The interns’ responsibilities include expanding the city’s geographic information system to assist with land development, developing a business plan and a program to promote entrepreneurship, and redesigning an exhibit and gift shop to attract more visitors, among other tasks.

Since its inception, FedNor’s Youth Internship Program has helped provide nearly 1300 bright, young graduates with their crucial first job, and assisted countless local organizations and businesses in growing the economy by helping them access a qualified and talented workforce.

“FedNor support is helping the City of North Bay and two of its cultural organizations to develop and grow, which in turn, will benefit businesses in the region through increased economic development activity and greater traffic in the downtown area,” said Al McDonald, Mayor of
North Bay.

Funding for the project announced today is provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP) which supports strategic initiatives that create an environment for economic growth, diversification, and business competitiveness and productivity.
