Free event tonight on non-partisan electoral reform options

Interest was high in the January presentation, so Dan and Sarah Nicksy are offering a return engagement tonight at the Public Library: 'We don't care who you vote for; we just want your vote to actually matter ... Our motivation is we're frustrated with the current electoral system, and with how it's failing Ontarians and Canadians'

Dan and Sarah Nicksy will give a non-partisan presentation on improving democracy in Ontario and Canada on Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. in the North Bay Public Library auditorium.

The two were in town in January for a well-attended session and are happy to offer a return engagement.

"People often shy away from anything political, so we'd like to emphasize that it's entirely non-partisan. The presentation focuses on how we elect our representatives, not on who we elect. We don't endorse any particular party. We don't care who you vote for; we just want your vote to actually matter. Whether you typically vote on the left or the right, everyone is welcome and everyone stands to learn something valuable," said Dan.

There is no cost to attend.

"Our motivation is we're frustrated with the current electoral system, and with how it's failing Ontarians and Canadians," Dan shared with BayToday. "We know the path toward change is regular citizens educating each other so more people understand that there are other, more democratic options — we're not stuck with what we've got."

The married couple bills themselves as "people who would like to see our democracy work better, and that starts with us citizens educating ourselves."

The presentation is designed, according to Dan, to educate citizens on how our current provincial/federal electoral system works, why it is failing Canadians, and how other more democratic electoral systems are used successfully worldwide.
