YMCA set to hand out peace medals

From November 17 – 24, YMCA Peace Week invites people of all ages to reflect on peace, to talk, and to take action, individually and with others. A special highlight of this week is the presentation of the YMCA Peace Medal to an individual or group who, without any special resources, demonstrates a commitment to peace through individual contributions made within their community or overseas.

This year’s Peace Medallion Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 23rd and will honour 3 local community members who have made significant contributions towards peace building. The ceremony will be held at the YMCA of North Bay from 2:30 to 3:30pm.

Think Green • Monday, November 19th
A healthy planet is vital to the growth and well-being of each individual and every community. Visit the YMCA to purchase a “Clean Air Tree Kit” and have another tree planted in a developing country.

Random Acts of Kindness • Tuesday, November 20th
It’s the little things in life that really make a difference. Watch for the YMCA on Tuesday morning as we partner with local Tim Hortons to make some days brighter with Random Acts of Kindness!

Community Clothing Drive • Wednesday, November 21st
Do you have any warm outerwear you aren’t going to need this winter? Why not make a donation to our Community Clothing Drive! You can help by dropping off clean winter coats, hats, mitts, boots and scarves at the YMCA.

Walk in the Shoes of Someone Else • Thursday, November 22nd
Walk with us to support peace! Grab a mismatched set of shoes and "Walk in the Shoes of Someone Else" for the day to show that you are thinking of others.

Peace Medallion Ceremony • Friday, November 23rd
Join us as at the YMCA at 2:30pm as we present the Peace Medallion, recognizing those who have demonstrated a commitment to building peace within their community or in communities elsewhere in the world.

Additionally, the Rotary Club of North Bay will be participating in YMCA Peace Week with their ShelterBox, which will be on display throughout the week. ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.
