Very strong southwesterly winds of 60 gusting to 100 km/h are expected to ease slowly beginning this evening as the large autumn storm responsible for the damaging winds slowly weakens.

Motorists should be prepared for very difficult driving conditions in the very strong and gusty winds.


Weather summary - An unusually deep and large autumn storm is affecting Northern Ontario and has generated some very strong winds over areas near the upper Great Lakes and significant rainfall amounts over portions of Northwestern Ontario. A number of wind warnings have been issued as

As of 11:20 AM Environment Canada issued the following Wind warning for the North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa, West Nipissing and French River areas.

Strong southerly winds of 60 gusting to 90 km/h have developed along the north shore of Lake Superior...With a 93 km/h gust already reported at Wawa late this morning. The strong winds will spread eastward to the Québec border by early afternoon. A few gusts to 100 km/h are likely to the northeast of Lake Superior as well as around Manitoulin Island and the north channel. These very strong damaging winds are expected to continue through the afternoon before easing off gradually this evening.

Motorists should be prepared for difficult driving conditions in the very strong and gusty winds.
