Widdifield students to earn industry-recognized certificates

On February 21, 2007, beginning at 9:00 a.m., Widdifield secondary students in Grade 10 and up will be participating in training sessions and workshops to obtain industry-recognized certifications in more than 35 different fields. Industry professionals, from across the community, are donating their time and expertise to offer all sessions free of charge for students.

Training sessions and workshops will provide students with an opportunity to obtain industry-recognized certification of interest and value to them, and additional qualifications when seeking employment. Several partners have come together to sponsor this event including the Muskoka, Nipissing, Parry Sound Local Training and Adjustment Board, the Passport to Prosperity Campaign, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program, NECO Community Futures Development Program, FedNor, the Business Centre of Nipissing Parry Sound and the City of North Bay.

Students will have a diverse group of training sessions and workshops to choose from, including: Television Production with Cogeco; Introduction to Ground Flying School with the Algonquin Flight Centre; Vinyl/Ceramic Tile with Northern Stone & Ceramic; WHIMIS and Safety in the Workplace with Yes! Employment Services; Stage Combat with Robert McCubbin; and, Introduction to Equestrian Preparation with Knowlton Ridge Equestrian Centre.

Training sessions and workshops will be at various locations, including Widdifield Secondary School, throughout the community.
