The North Bay Police have confirmed the West Ferris Secondary and Intermediate School is under lockdown.

Witnesses saw at least five cruisers rushing down Lakeshore Drive late this afternoon.

"Something bad is happening at West Ferris," one parent told BayToday via social media about the incident.

The lockdown comes only hours after Chippewa Secondary School received a social media threat overnight that led to a police investigation however, the school was never put in lockdown and that school opened without incident. No word on whether the two incidents are related.

North Bay Police stated just after 4 p.m. that the students are safe.

"Please be aware that all the students at West Ferris Secondary School are safe," stated David Woolley, corporate communications officer with the North Bay Police service.

"The lockdown is ongoing."
