Visions of Sugar Plums

Last night at the Capitol Centre visions of sugar plums were dancing in our heads. Sugar Plum Fairies that is. It was an enchanting evening as the Ballet Jörgen Canada filled the stage with colour and dancing.

Last night at the Capitol Centre visions of sugar plums were dancing in our heads. Sugar Plum Fairies that is.

It was an enchanting evening as the Ballet Jörgen Canada filled the stage with colour and dancing. Laura Kim as Klara, and Ryan Wohlgemut as the Nutcracker Prince were delightful.

Set design was minimal, but the bright costumes made the stage look magical. The giant Christmas tree lit up the stage and the birch trees and dry ice created an eerie and mystical atmosphere.

The two hour performance seemed to be over in seconds as the audience became mesmerized by the ballet. Local dance students, Jenna Shortt, Zoë Tessier, and Sarah Purtell fit in well with the Ballet Company. They graced the stage with their flawless performances. Click here for earlier story.

The evening had some historical significance as well. Development Director, Paul Pederson announced at the beginning of the evening that we were the last audience to sit in the seats we occupied. As of this morning, December 14th, the concert hall is receiving and extreme makeover. The seats are all being removed, painting will be done and new seats installed for the first productions in January, 2007.
