Mayoral candidate Harvey Villneff has unveiled a four-part platform he says will make North Bay a better city.

His major plank is financial responsibility.

"I'm looking into finding out what the extra spending is all about, the over costs and contracts that went bad," he told BayToday at his home Monday morning.

"I've noticed a lot of the work has been done fast, not in my mind professionally. 'Let's get it done to say we did something'.

"I know I can save the city money and create jobs."

Villneff also thinks taxes are too high leading to a "chain reaction which is destructive in every aspect of the city from high rent, and lower wages".

He plans to work on a tax freeze.

"I think we have had enough increases for the time being, he said."

The security consultant wants upgrades to the city's police and fire department.

"These upgrades are to be done at no extra cost to the city", he said but did not provide details.

His final plank is poverty in this city.

"There are many people that are struggling to make ends meet, he explained. "Pay bills or eat? Children, seniors, students, single mothers, single fathers and grandparents raising their grandchildren, people on Ontario works, and the list goes on and on.

"It's my plan to find a way to help these people have a better life.

"People want a change. Basically they've been telling me they need someone else in there.

"Nothing is getting changed in the past four years. Things seem to be going downhill."
