The crew from U Needa Cab ditched their taxis for trash bags Wednesday and teamed up with North Bay Blooms to clean up the intersection at Algonquin Avenue and the Bypass.

Company owner John Strang showed up with close to 30 people to help support North Bay Bloom's weekly clean up around town. The group scoured every corner of the intersection and filled over 20 trash bags with litter. The haul included two old election signs and put them up over their total from last year by one more bag.

Bloom’s committee member Chris Mayne says despite gathering 20 bags of litter team leader Catherine Strang told him that she was pleased to note there appeared to be less trash in contrast to last year as they had covered a larger clean up area this year.

“None-the-less twenty plus bags of garbage were still casually discarded by passing pedestrians and motorists during the last year, which still makes it frustrating for those trying to keep the city clean,” he notes.

Folks are encouraged to contact Bylaw Enforcement officer Ron Melnyk at 474-0400 if they see anyone polluting.

Mayne also reminds everyone that the OPP and other law enforcement agencies can fine as much as $250 for simply throwing cigarette butt out of the car window on to highway property.

Next week's clean up will be with RBC at Stockdale Road, volunteers are always welcome, check out www.northbayblooms for details.
