Two new COVID cases today, 21 active

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is reporting two new COVID cases today, and the number of active cases continues to climb, now reaching 21.

It brings the number of cases since the pandemic began to 324.

It comes on the heels of Nipissing First Nation warning community members of several high-risk exposures in Garden Village related to the positive case of COVID-19 at Our Lady of Sorrows school in Sturgeon Falls.

Another 829 vaccinations bring the total to 29,156 or 26.85 per cent of the over 18 population of the district.

The Temiskaming Health Unit reports five active cases.

The Sudbury Health Unit reports 15 new cases today and 215 active. It also announced another death, bringing that total up to 25.

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit reports 89 new cases and 971 active cases.

In northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 321 cases, rate of 247.4 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 322 cases. There are 22 known active cases. There have been 31 confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 27 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are 13 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 133 cases, rate of 406.9 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 135 cases. There are four known active cases. There have been 22 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,742 cases, rate of 875.3 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,758. There are 244 known active cases. There have been 56 confirmed UK (B.1.1.7) variants of concern. There are 523 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
  • Algoma Public Health: 281 cases, rate of 245.6 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 279 cases. There are 42 known active cases, including one person who is temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. There have been five confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant of concern. Three tests have screened positive for a variant of concern but the strain is not known yet. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 417 cases, rate of 499.8 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 420 cases. There are 42 known active cases. There have been four confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are four tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 774 cases, rate of 882.8 per 100,000 people. There are 56 known active cases. There have been 11 confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant. There are 15 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. 
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 2,982 cases, rate of 1988.5 per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 2,988 cases. There are 72 known active cases. There are nine tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.

Public Health Ontario has reported 4,156 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 14).

Today's report includes 3,160 recoveries and 28 new deaths.  

The deaths reported today include one person between 20 and 39 years old, two people between 40 and 59 years old, 12 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 13 people over the age of 79 years old.

The province has reported 191 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 33 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The April 14 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 36,608 active cases, which is up from 35,840 yesterday. 
  • 1,877 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,822 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 642 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (up from 626 yesterday) and 442 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 422 reported yesterday)
  • The province reported 54,211 tests were processed yesterday resulting in an 8.6 per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 45,248 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.2 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 4,156 new cases reported today, 1,254 are from Toronto, 593 cases are from Peel, 476 are from York Region, and 70 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
  • The new cases reported today include 755 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,490 people between 20 and 39 years old, 1,271 people between 40 and 59 years old, 560 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 76 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 112,817 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 13, which is up from 95,692 doses on April 12.
  • As of 6 p.m. on April 13, the province reported 3,422,974 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 337,206 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 398,835 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 354,417 recoveries and 7,610 deaths, of which 3,908 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,683.2 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 172.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 30.8 per cent from last week (March 29 to April 4).
