The number running for North Bay city council has risen to 14, and could easily top 20 before the deadline for declaring next Friday.

With just one week before the September 12th 2 p.m. cut off, action is heating up.

Harvey Villneff is the only declared mayoral candidate, although incumbent Al McDonald is widely expected to announce.

With incumbents George Maroosis and Daryl Vaillancourt announcing in the past two days, it brings to seven the number of serving councillors that have filed papers.

All 10 current councillors are expected to seek re-election.

Veteran politician Maroosis quietly filed without a formal news release.

This morning Vaillancourt told BayToday he has a seven point plan which he hopes will garner the most votes and land him in the deputy mayor’s seat.

Included in those:

Bring business and jobs to the city

  • Encourage an aerospace supercentre
  • Improved waterfront
  • Growing CFB North Bay
  • Improving quality of life
  • Investing in infrastructure
  • Better political relationships
