Last week, West Ferris Secondary School was named one of the top 10 high school finalists in the in the College Sounds Great contest.

In December 2010, high school students province-wide competed in a contest to have the band Down With Webster perform at their year-end party. To enter, students were asked to describe why a college education is an excellent postsecondary option. The 10 schools with the highest percentage of students having entered the contest were chosen as finalists.

Colleges Ontario judges are evaluating the written and video entries and will pick the school whose students did the best job at telling them why "College Sounds Great" by May 12.

The contest is part of the Ontario colleges' ongoing effort to encourage students to explore the range of postsecondary programs available at both college and university, and to choose programs that best suit their
interests and strengths. Ontario's colleges offer a wide range of programs in a number of areas, including aviation, business, culinary arts, health care, media studies, sport and recreation, skilled trades, and much more.

The winning school will be announced on collegesoundsgreat.com on May 13. Down With Webster is one of Canada's hottest bands and is known for such hits as Your Man. The winning school will get a live performance on June 18.

Congratulations West Ferris, and good luck!
