Disaster Relief

When a natural disaster strikes, many survivors lose everything. They need immediate shelter, water, clothing and food. We have seen this happen in Haiti, in New Zealand and now in Japan. What can we do when disaster strikes?

The ShelterBox Solution

One green ShelterBox provides a durable tent and life saving equipment to help a stricken family through the first few days, weeks and months. The contents are tailored to the needs and location of the recipient families.

Working with local organizations, international aid agencies and Rotary Clubs, highly trained ShelterBox Response Teams distribute the boxes directly into the hands of the people who need them. For more than 10 years, the easily transportable ShelterBoxes have been sent to over 100 disasters in 70 countries. There are 27,000 ShelterBoxes in use right now in Haiti, and a ShelterBox Response Team is now in Japan, having arrived less than 24 hours after the earthquake and tsunami struck.

The Rotary Club of North Bay has joined other Rotary Clubs worldwide to raise awareness and funds in support of the ShelterBox program. The club asks you to consider sponsoring a box or a portion of one. A donation of $1000
sponsors a complete box, which is delivered directly into the hands of a needy family, but any contribution is important. Charitable receipts are issued for donations of $20 or more.
