The NDP Critic for Training, Colleges and Universities, MPP Chris Glover, says he believes Canadore College should have removed the person central to an investigation into sexual discrimination and harassment, from the workplace.

Glover told BayToday that he has had conversations with complainants, and written a couple of letters to the last two Ministers of Colleges and Universities and to Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.

"We expressed our concern about the allegations of harassment in the workplace. Absolutely nobody should be living in fear of being harassed in the workplace," he said.

Glover asked them to monitor the situation to make sure the investigation is fair and gets to the bottom of any potential problems. He wants to make sure the college takes action if the allegations are found to be true.

"If the allegations are substantiated the college is absolutely obliged  to take action."

He contends the person that is the main focus of complaints should have been removed from the workplace, citing Glover's experience as a school trustee.

"As a school trustee, it was the practice, if there was an allegation, to put that person on leave while the investigation is undertaken. It's up to the college to address this to make sure that they have a harassment-free workplace and take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that."

Sources say that report regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, and abuse of power, is to be released to the executive committee of the Board of Governors on Friday, February 14.
