Students given $10,000 worth of music instruments

“The Band Aid Program helps schools across the country”

Students from across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board are singing the praises of Musicounts, after receiving $10,000 worth of instruments and equipment.

In November 2015, music teacher at Mother St. Bride Elementary School, Allison Denomme, applied to be part of the Musicounts Band Aid Program, in what seemed to be a long shot.

“The Band Aid Program helps schools across the country,” she says. “I had high hopes, but I know the competition for a grant like this is immense,” she adds. “I was thrilled to learn we were selected to receive the grant this year.”

Musicounts is Canada’s music education charity, associated with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The aim of the organization is to empower Canadian students by helping them discover their musical talents. Denomme says this grant will do just that.

“Our music program includes students from across the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board,” she says. “Not only will students from Mother St. Bride benefit from this grant but they will be able to work with their peers from across North Bay to enhance their musical talents and build their musical knowledge,” she says. “These instruments will give them the platform they need to develop as young musicians and build strong foundations for any future musical endeavour they choose.”
