This should be obvious, but OPP felt compelled today to warn drivers not to travel on roads shut down by accidents or weather conditions.

"On November 19 and 20, the James Bay OPP issued over 20 Provincial Offence Notices to drivers for the offence of 'Drive on Closed Highway',"Constable Stéphanie Bélec told BayToday.

The incidents all took place on Highway 11 north

If you're convicted expect to pay a $110 fine and add three demerit points to your driving record.

Bélec emphasizes the importance of following road closure signs.

"Drivers who decided to travel on closed highways pose a risk to themselves and to all emergency personnel working on the highway. Furthermore, drivers may not be covered by their insurance should they be involved in a motor vehicle collision while driving on a closed highway."

The OPP is reminding the motoring public to use caution while driving during the winter months.
