The Salvation Army will close its North Bay thrift store on January 18 because of ongoing financial concerns says the organization.

"The Salvation Army has made the difficult decision to close the Thrift Store located at 447 Main Street, North Bay," said Dan Millar, Area Director for Public Relations. "Following a standard review of business options, we reached this decision due to its financial instability. This was not an easy decision and was made due to an ongoing history of financial instability which could no longer be sustained."

Millar says the Salvation Army is grateful for the support it received from the community throughout the 25 plus years that The Salvation Army Thrift Store was in operation.

A clearance sale of all items will start this week.

"We look forward to continuing to provide social services to those in need in our community through our Salvation Army location 134 McIntyre St. E. North Bay. Through our mission, we are committed to providing impactful services in the 400 communities we serve across Canada. We will continue to be a part of the North Bay Community giving hope to the many in need."

Millar says the Salvation Army remains committed to providing comprehensive social services directly to anyone and everyone in North Bay and surrounding area who requires assistance through the Emergency Food Bank, Christmas assistant programs, Youth Camping programs, Food Rescue initiatives, and Homeless Care Package programs.

The Salvation Army serves in over 400 communities across the country and is Canada’s largest non-governmental provider of social services.

It also provides transitional and emergency housing, provides one-third of all shelter beds in Canada and serves 1.6 million meals every year.
