Police lay murder charges in downtown knifing

North Bay police have laid second-degree murder charges against two North Bay people after a knife attack on Wyld St. on December 4.

The two were previously charged with attempted murder, but the death of the victim, Nicholas Nicholls, 27, of North Bay on Dec. 11 in a Sudbury hospital prompted the upgraded charges.

On Saturday, December 4, police responded to reports that a man had sustained injuries from an edged weapon during an assault and required medical attention. The victim was found on Wyld Street, downtown.

EMS rushed the victim to the hospital in critical condition.

On Sunday, December 5, police found and arrested two suspects, a woman and a man.

Sandra Dorothy Haggart, 34, is charged with second-degree murder.

Travis Stillaway, 26, is charged with:

  • Second-degree murder
  • Four counts of failure to comply with release order

The accused remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
