There are less then 12 days to go before North Bay and West Nipissing voters decide on who will represent them on the Near North School Board for the next four years.

“In the last 3 weeks, I have visited all 20 elementary and secondary schools in the North Bay and Sturgeon Falls area and I can tell you that it has been a worthwhile learning experience. Each school brings its own dynamics and challenges,” commented Trustee candidate David Thompson.

“Meeting with Teachers, Principals and Parents has been an important process for me to understand the real grassroots issues within the Near North School Board. I have heard that the Parent Councils biggest complaint is that they want more access to Trustees, as they feel ignored due to the lack of communication,” continued Thompson.

The parents and school staff are very concerned about the following issues: security at the elementary schools, school programs such as music are not being adequately funded, too much fundraising is downloaded onto the Parent Councils and school staffs and declining enrollment are the main topics being voiced.

“We have the best students, the best parents and the best school staff which makes for the best Education System in the North Bay and Sturgeon Falls area. For this very reason, the new Trustees must promote this fact by becoming more accessible and regularly visiting our schools. This is something that I am committed to,” stated Thompson.
