Anthony Rota, Please Oppose Bill C-10

Editor's note:  Opponents of Bill 10  say it will give the CRTC the power to regulate the posts that Canadians upload to platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. They see it as a violation of the charter right to freedom of expression.

Hi Anthony.

I'm opposed to Bill C-10.

I see this as a slippery slope to sanitizing and Canadianizing my online world.

There's a reason that my friends in Mainland China had no idea (and still have no idea) about the riots in Hong Kong when they were happening: It's because Xi controls all content.

We're starting to get to the point where it's Fahrenheit 451: Let's not get there.

Canada, with a population of around 38 million people, makes up about 0.475% of the world's population.

I follow media streams and YouTube channels from the other 99.525% of the world. I believe that it's necessary to keep it that way.

The alternative is worse: You force people to the dark web or to buying VPN services that make it look as though you're located in Nigeria. Imagine if the slope got even more slippery and there was a requirement for Canadian Content in Science: Canada would be in trouble. Please oppose Bill C-10.
