Canada Post has put out an alert that the North Bay Canada Post building on Worthington will be shut down on Friday as the local office it is taking "precautionary measures regarding COVID-19," Canada Post stated via Twitter.

"The North Bay depot and post office will not be processing mail and parcels on March 27," the tweet continues.

Mark Evard, National Director, CUPW - Central Region confirmed the situation to CKAT this morning.

"So the North Bay depot will be closed today due to a presumptive positive case that attended the North Bay post office on March 17, 2020," said Evard in an email to CKAT.

"I understand that Canada Post still has yet to get in touch with the local public health authority for guidance. The post office will be professionally cleaned today. We will be taking our direction from the public health authority. All measures currently being taken are out an abundance of caution due to the current situation."

The first case of COVID-19 in the North Bay-Parry Sound District was announced on Thursday.
